About this adventure
The Khasab fishing trip is run by Captain Khalid, who grew up fishing Khor Sham and knows the bottom of the fjord better than anyone we have ever worked with. The 4-hour trip is a trolling run — we tow lines behind the boat at 4–6 knots, targeting kingfish (Scomberomorus commerson), queenfish (Scomberoides tol), and the occasional tuna. The 6-hour trip adds bottom fishing at one of the inner-fjord reef drop-offs, targeting grouper (Epinephelus) and red snapper (Lutjanus). The boat is the dhow Al-Marwa (18 guests) for groups of 6–12, or the speedboat Sea Hawk 1 (6 guests) for groups of 4–6. We supply rods, reels, bait, ice, water and a tackle guide. We clean and bag your catch at the end of the trip; you can take it back to your hotel or to a harbour restaurant that will cook it for you. Khor Sham is one of the most reliable fishing grounds in the Gulf. Kingfish and queenfish are caught on about 80% of trolling trips. Bottom fishing is less reliable — about 60% of trips land a grouper or snapper. The trip is the right pick for anglers and families who want a quiet, productive day on the water. We do not run a fly-fishing or sport-fishing version — Khor Sham is not a bill-fishing ground.
