About this adventure
The off-road 4x4 expedition is the wildest trip we run. It is a full-day, 9–10 hour loop that climbs from Khasab through Wadi Khasab, crosses the Sayh Plateau, summits Jebel Harim at 2,087 m, and drops into the hidden Rawdah Bowl — a green valley with a year-round spring that most day-trippers never see. The route is the one the local drivers use. The first 30 km are on a graded mountain road; the last 15 km are on a graded track that climbs through the Rawdah Bowl and loops back to the Sayh Plateau. The road is bumpy in three places but uses graded tracks the entire way — no technical 4x4 skills are required from passengers. The driver-guide is Salim (14 years on the route) or Yahya (9 years, the Rawdah Bowl specialist). The picnic lunch is served in the shade of an acacia tree in the Rawdah Bowl: grilled chicken, hummus, salads, fruit, water, Arabic coffee. The swim stop at the end of the day is at the Rawdah spring — a small freshwater pool that is 18°C year-round. The expedition is the right pick for adventure travellers, photographers and hikers who want to see the inland Musandam that the standard mountain safari does not reach. It is a long day — expect 9–10 hours from pickup to drop-off.
