Sea kayaking in Khor Sham — sea caves, hidden coves, 3 hours
A 3-hour guided sea kayak tour into the smaller khors of Khor Sham. Tandem and single kayaks, marine guide, snorkel stop in a sea cave.

What you'll do
The sea kayak tour is the trip we run for guests who want to see the parts of Khor Sham the dhows cannot reach. We launch from a small beach about 10 minutes from Khasab Port, paddle into the smaller side-khors where the cliffs close in to about 30 m wide, and explore sea caves and hidden coves that no boat can fit into.
The kayaks are modern sea kayaks — single and tandem. You do not need kayaking experience; the marine guide gives a 20-minute on-beach briefing on paddle technique, bracing, and what to do if you capsize. The water is calm inside the khors and the only current is the tide.
We stop for a snorkel in a sea cave about 90 minutes into the tour. The cave has a sandy floor, a 3-m entrance, and a small coral garden on the inside wall. Visibility is usually 5–8 m. The marine guide goes in first to check the conditions.
The 3-hour tour is the right pick for guests who want a small-group, active day. Maximum 8 guests per departure. We run at 08:00 (the calmest water) and 15:00 (the softest light).

Local tip from the team
The 15:00 departure has the better light for photos in the caves, but the 08:00 has the calmest water. We strongly recommend the morning if it is your first time in a sea kayak.
Frequently asked questions
I have never kayaked before — is this for me?
Yes. We put first-timers in tandem kayaks with the guide, or in single kayaks after the on-beach briefing. The water is calm. About 10% of our guests capsize once on the first day; the guide is right there.
What if I capsize?
You do a wet exit (the spray skirt pops off, you lean back, you fall out), the guide rights the kayak, you climb back in. It takes 30 seconds. We practise it on the beach first.
Can my 8-year-old come?
Yes, in a tandem kayak with a parent. The minimum age is 8.
Is the snorkel stop safe?
The guide checks the cave before anyone gets in. The cave is sandy-floored, 1–3 m deep, with one entrance. We do not go in if the swell is up.
