About Camping on Khor Sham and Seebi Island
There is no campground in Musandam in the way there is in some other countries. Wild camping in the khors (sea inlets) and on Seebi Island is only allowed as part of an overnight dhow cruise or a private boat charter, with a permit from the Royal Oman Police. We have been running overnight cruises since 2014, and the camp format has been refined to a fixed package that includes everything you need.
The overnight cruise leaves Khasab Port at 16:00, anchors in a sheltered cove on Khor Sham or Seebi Island around sunset, and we set up camp on the beach. The tents are 3-person dome tents (we give 2 people a 3-person tent, so you have space for your bags), the sleeping bags are rated to 5 degrees, and the air mattresses are self-inflating. We provide camp chairs, a fire pit, and a portable toilet (we do not dig a hole).
Dinner is a fresh fish grill on the beach — captain catches it on the way in — plus rice, salads, hummus, fruit, and Arabic coffee. The cook and one deckhand stay overnight; the rest of the crew returns to the dhow anchored 50 m off the beach. Breakfast is served on the beach at sunrise, and the dhow returns to Khasab Port by 09:00.
This is the experience we recommend for adventurous couples, families with kids over 8, and photographers. The light is best at sunrise and sunset, the beach is your own, and the only other people you will see are the occasional fishing boat in the distance.

Amenities
👍 What we like
- ✓The only way to sleep on the beach in Musandam
- ✓Fresh fish dinner cooked on the beach
- ✓Quiet, dark, and isolated — the stars are unreal
- ✓Sunrise and sunset on the fjord are the best photo ops in Khasab
- ✓Run by our captains, who know the safest anchorages
👎 What to know
- ✗No shower (sea-bath only)
- ✗No phone signal
- ✗Compost toilet, not a flush toilet
- ✗Weather-dependent — if winds are over 20 knots we anchor closer to Khasab
Our recommendation
This is the most requested overnight experience in Khasab. If you are comfortable sleeping outdoors and you want a real wilderness experience, this is the one. We do not recommend it for kids under 8.
What to bring
- •Headlamp (we provide one but you might want your own)
- •Quick-dry towel
- •Layers for the night (5–10 degrees is common from December to February)
- •Camera with a tripod for the stars
- •Seabed shoes or reef shoes for the rocky shore
Operator tip
Pick the night of a new moon. The Milky Way is directly overhead, the bioluminescence in the water lights up around your feet, and the captain will take you on a quiet 30-minute dhow cruise under the stars.

Is wild camping allowed in Musandam?
Only as part of an overnight dhow cruise or a private boat charter, with a permit from the Royal Oman Police. We arrange the permit as part of the package.
Is there a shower?
No. Sea-bath only. We provide a bucket of fresh water for hair-washing and a quick rinse with biodegradable soap.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The captain decides by 14:00 on the day of the trip. If conditions are unsafe, we refund the camp portion (about 60% of the package) or reschedule free of charge.
