Frequently asked questions
Can I use a photocopy of my passport?
No. Border officers at Al Dara do not accept digital copies on phones or photocopies. You must present the original passport for every person in the vehicle.
Do children need their own passport?
Yes. Every person crossing the border, including infants, must have their own valid passport. Children cannot travel on a parent's passport.
What if my UAE residence visa expires in less than 3 months?
You may be denied entry at the Oman border. Your UAE residence visa must be valid for at least 90 days from your date of entry into Oman.
Do I need an international driving permit?
No if your driving licence is in English or Arabic. If it is in another language, you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official translation.
Can I bring alcohol into Musandam?
No. Oman has a strict no-alcohol policy for tourists entering by land. Your car will likely be checked at customs. Do not attempt to bring alcohol across.
What is the Orange Card?
The Orange Card is the international motor insurance certificate that covers your vehicle in Oman. You can buy it at the border if your UAE insurance does not cover Oman.
