Trusted by Travelers
Don't just take our word for it. Here is what our self-drive customers are saying.
"Rented a Land Cruiser to go up to Jebel Harim. The car was in perfect off-road condition and handled the steep gravel switchbacks easily. They even dropped it off at our hotel in Khasab!"
— Michael T., UK
"We originally planned to rent a car in Dubai and drive in, but the insurance fees to cross the border were crazy. Rented an SUV locally with Jazar instead. So much cheaper and zero border headaches."
— Sarah K., UAE Resident
"Got a small sedan just to get around Khasab town and head down the coastal road. Great communication via WhatsApp, no hidden fees, everything was transparent."
— Ali R., Oman
Essential Tips & Required Documents
Required Documents
You must present a physical passport, an Oman Tourist Visa/Entry Stamp, and a valid Driving License (GCC license accepted for residents; International Driving Permit required for most non-GCC tourists). A credit card is required for security deposits.
Fuel & Offline Navigation
Fill your tank entirely in Khasab or Bukha—there are zero gas stations located in the mountains. Mobile data drops frequently in the wadis; you must download offline Google Maps before leaving your accommodation's Wi-Fi.
Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We've got answers to make your rental smooth.
Do I really need a 4x4 in Musandam?
If you plan to visit the famous Khor Najd fjord, scale Jebel Harim, or drive through Wadi Bih, a 4x4 is absolutely mandatory. 2WD vehicles are routinely turned back at mountain police checkpoints. For exploring Khasab town, visiting forts, or driving the paved coastal highway, a standard sedan is perfectly fine.
Does the rental include Oman car insurance?
Yes, all our rental vehicles operating out of Khasab come comprehensively equipped with the necessary local Oman vehicle insurance required by law.
I am visiting from Dubai, can my UAE driving license be used?
Yes! A valid UAE or GCC resident driving license is fully accepted in Oman. You do not need a special permit if you hold a GCC license. Most international tourists will require an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home country license.
Can I rent a car in Dubai and drive it to Khasab?
Many UAE car rental agencies do not allow their vehicles to cross into Oman, or they charge a massive premium for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and Oman insurance. It is often much easier and cheaper to take the bus/taxi to the border, and rent a car directly from us in Khasab.
Can I rent a car in Khasab and drive it back to Dubai?
No. Our rental fleet is restricted specifically for use within the Musandam Governorate (Oman). The vehicles cannot cross international borders into the UAE.
Where can I pick up my rental vehicle?
We offer highly flexible pick-up locations. We can deliver your car to Khasab Airport, the National Ferries Company terminal, the Khasab cruise ship port, or directly to your hotel.
Are fuel stations easy to find?
Fuel stations are easily located in Khasab city and Bukha. However, there are zero fuel options in the mountains. Always fill your tank before beginning an off-road trip.
What is the minimum age to rent a car?
The primary driver must be at least 21 years old and hold a driving license that has been valid for a minimum of 1 year.
Is a security deposit required?
Yes, a standard security deposit (usually held via credit card or cash) is required to cover potential traffic fines. Credit card holds are typically released within 14-21 days after vehicle return.
Is there a daily mileage limit?
Our rentals usually come with a generous daily mileage allowance (e.g., 200km/day) which is more than enough to explore all reachable destinations within the Musandam governorate.
Prefer Not to Navigate the Mountains?
Skip the unpaved mountain switchbacks and let our experienced local drivers take the wheel. Enjoy the views of Jebel Harim without the driving stress, or sit back on a relaxing dhow cruise.
