About Al Muftah Restaurant (Atana Khasab)

Al Muftah is the a-la-carte restaurant at Atana Khasab, and it is the best a-la-carte in Khasab. The menu is short (eight mains, four starters, three desserts) but every dish is well-executed. The kitchen sources the fish from the local fishing boats, the meat is halal and locally sourced, and the bread is baked in-house. The sea-view terrace is the best in Khasab, and the sunset is part of the meal.

The signature dish is the grilled kingfish (12 OMR), served with Omani rice, grilled vegetables, and a lemon-tahini sauce. The slow-cooked lamb shank (18 OMR) is the best in Khasab and is worth the price. The vegetarian options are limited (three dishes) but well-executed. The dessert menu is small but the Omani halwa and the date pudding are both homemade.

We recommend Al Muftah for a special dinner in Khasab — anniversary, birthday, or the last night of a multi-day package. The restaurant is air-conditioned, the seating is comfortable, and the service is the best in Khasab.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book Al Muftah in advance?

Yes. The restaurant is small (40 seats) and fills up by 20:00 in winter. You can book on WhatsApp through Atana Khasab, or through us when you book a tour package.

Is the menu halal?

Yes. All meat is halal. The fish is from the local fishing boats of Khasab. The chef can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets with one day's notice.

Is Al Muftah better than Al Barr?

Different formats. Al Muftah is a-la-carte, smaller, more intimate, with a sea-view terrace. Al Barr is a buffet, larger, more casual, with live cooking. Al Muftah is the better special-occasion choice; Al Barr is the better value choice.
