About Khasab Corniche Fish Market
The Khasab corniche fish market is not a restaurant — it is a market where you buy fresh fish and have it cooked. The market is on the north side of the corniche, about 200 m from the port, and it is open from 06:00 to 13:00 every day except Friday (when it opens at 14:00). The stalls sell the fresh catch from the local fishing boats — kingfish, tuna, pomfret, shark, hammour, sardines — and the prices are fixed (no bargaining).
The process is: arrive at 06:00, choose your fish from the ice, pay the stall (1 to 3 OMR per kg depending on the fish), take the fish to one of the small restaurants on the corniche (most charge 2 to 4 OMR to cook it), and eat it on the terrace overlooking the bay. The whole experience costs about 5 to 8 OMR per person, which is the best value fresh fish in Khasab.
We recommend the kingfish (the local favourite) and the hammour (the more expensive option). The tuna is good for sashimi. The shark is a local delicacy but it is not for everyone — the texture is firm, the flavour is strong, and the bones are a challenge.
Signature dish
